Just a few handy tips based on our experience at iWedding Video Perth.
What equipment do you use?
The better-known brands are more trusted. The model of the camera will give you an indication on what level of experience your videographers have. Again the best of equipment needs a skilled videographer to operate it. We use Sony video cameras due to their proven track record in reliability and low light capabilities. Please review our Equipment List.
How many cameras do you use?
This is useful in church. With mainly two cameras in church it gives you a back up to cut to. If the bride drops her flowers, we might need to cut to the minister or priest to take that out. We use one stationary camera on the minister or couple and one videographer on a separate tripod with video camera.
Do you have any back-up equipment?
Should the need arise where in the unforeseen event of your camera breaking down, you need back-up equipment to continue filming without the bridal couple even knowing of your problems. This goes for video lights and microphones. We lost a camera once when dancing couple bumped it off the table by accident. This disaster was quickly overcome as we always carry backup equipment to ensure continuous filming.
How long have you been doing videographer?
Two important reasons why you should seek someone with experience.
Firstly, there is less risk off foreclosure due to financial stability and professional service that will lead to a continually existing videography services. I have had so many occasions where people have called me up at the last minute because they were not able to get hold of their wedding photographer or wedding videographer on their wedding day!
The second reason is experience. Experience counts-even more than expensive equipment. Experienced videographers like us would be able to use “not so standard equipment” and will still be able to produce a stunning videos. In unforeseen circumstances, an experienced videographer will know how to handle an unforeseen situation very quickly, like changing lighting conditions.
Do you have any person to cover for you should you become ill?
Let’s face it – accidents do happen! Most videographers out there are one man shows. At iWedding Video, we have the capability to quickly provide replacement videographers of the same skills and experience.
Do you prefer working with a specific photographer?
Some videographers and photographers prefer to work as a team. We can work with any photographer BUT there are a few we do not want to work with. They have a direct impact on our video and we cannot always control that. The same can be said for photographers. There is nothing more frustrating than a videographer that shoots “on the bride and groom” and prevent the photographer to do his work. He is a professional just like us. He also needs to get his footage as badly as we need to. We need to work together to create our magic!
Do you use video lights?
There are a few videographers who do not use lights. We prefer to use a specific video light. By correctly setting the video lights up it is not an inconvenience but just adds to the quality of the wedding video.
Do you use cordless mikes to record the service and speeches?
Most professional videographers use cordless mikes. The trick is also in using them correctly. We sometimes use a double set. We always first mike-up the minister /priest and then the groom. Our cameras have two sound channels. We always have a back up. You can never be too safe. Should for example, the minister sing too loud, we can cut to the ambient sound and get a more natural sound.
What is your dress code?
Yes, we have seen it all-from photographers to videographers shooting in jeans and sneakers. This is a big no-no. It is still a wedding and we dress appropriately for it. If we have special request from our bridal couple we will do all we can to adhere to it. We have even dressed in mediaeval amour as part of the wedding theme. They were so impressed and we were happy to take that extra step and beyond.
Will you go to any location?
There are some videographers who will not travel or drive some places. We travel interstate and internationally.
Do you have a legal contract?
All is good when you first meet but anything can happen. A contract is designed to protect BOTH parties to ensure clear and mutual understanding of the services required and to be rendered.
How long does it take to edit our wedding video?
Some couples have told me of waiting from 6 month to a year for their wedding video. We try and get our videos to our client as soon as possible. Our time frame depends on the package booked and how long their honeymoon is. We normally deliver your wedding video around 8 weeks to 12 weeks after your wedding day as we invest more than 35 hours on editing on your wedding video.
Can you provide us with more than one copy?
There are a few wedding videographers that try and make extra $$ out of this. iWedding Video provides 3 copies of your wedding DVD (Package dependent package).
What are the costs of any extra copies?
Sometimes they can charge you a lot for the extra copies. We do have an additional charge for additional copies plus postage if required.
How much do you charge to record longer than the agreed time?
You can end up spending almost as much on the over time as for your whole video! We have an agreed time in our contract and a set price for overtime. We will always inform you if we are over our time and ask if you would like us to continue recording. Please keep in mind that extra recording would directly impact on our editing time and cost. There is also the usual ware and tear on our equipment to consider.
What packages do you offer?
Most professional companies have a few packages available. We have as a standard, 3 packages available, BUT we can also customise unique wedding package to suit your needs. For more information view OUR PACKAGES
Will they be in the same format and cover as what we have received?
There are videographers who would, for example, not print covers or not print on the disk on the additional copies. We ensure that all our additional copies are identical in quality to those provided to the bride and groom. Please note that extra copies can only be ordered with permission from the bride and groom as they are the contractors.
Thank-You gift idea! We also create mini-videos featuring the highlights of your wedding day. Additional fees will apply as video editing required to shorten to a 10 minute time frame. We also provide you with an additional service. We upload a short video clip to our video site. This will ensure that family and friends that could not attend can still relive your magical day!
